Athlete of the Week: Sean Glotzbach

It's a cliche, but its truth lies at the heart of what makes sports worth watching.
Anything can happen on any given day.
Sean Glotzbach, a freshman wrestler for South View, took the mat against Raleigh Millbrook's Keegan Sykes in the second of a pair of dual matches for the Tigers in the state 4-A playoffs on Feb. 9 and stunned Sykes by scoring a pin fall at the 1:13 mark of the opening round, earning him athlete of the week honors.
Sykes, wrestling at 112 pounds, rather than his usual 103, was the third-ranked wrestler in the state at the lower weight class.
"It was a huge win," South View coach Cam Spence said. "We were in line for the win, but that one sealed it. You like to go in thinking you can win every match, but we weren't really counting on that one."
Glotzbach's win helped South View reach the third round of the dual meet tournament, where the Tigers lost to the eventual Eastern champion, Cary.
What made the victory all the more impressive was the speed at which it took place.
"He just went out and was aggressive," Spence said. "He snapped him down hard and got a cradle on him. We tell our guys that, against the better kids, you're going to get an opportunity. And when it comes, you need to take it."
Glotzbach has three more years in his high school career, and Spence is looking forward to watching his development.
"He's got a lot of potential," Spence said. "He's a good kid who loves wrestling. I'm looking forward to working with him in the off-season."
